Today is my Dads 85th Birthday, I know a few things about him, Like his favorite number is 38, He has played guitar since the late 1930`s, He opened his own music store in La Habra, Ca. and it is still family owned and operated for over 55 years. He has played and taught many musicians. He and his older brother (My Uncle) opened their 1st music store in Downey and taught Karen and Richard Carpenter how to play.
He knew Tommy Tedesco, Leo Fender, The band members from Los Lobo`s , Dick Dale and many more musicians.
My parent`s, I think were trying to have a girl, but ended up with 5 boys.
I come from a large Italian/Polish family, we all learned to play a musical instrument, my oldest brother runs the music store now, One of my other brother`s has a write up in the Daily Bulletin about him , He is a Music teacher, another works for the city of Riverside and my youngest brother works in landscaping.
I have worked at previous jobs , manufacturing window shutters, Family owned Restaurants, and Worked at the Music stores. But my true passion has always been Art. I have been drawing ever since a pencil was put in my hands. My mom took some of my artwork and had sent it off to the Disney Animation Studio`s without telling me, back in the 1970`s. They wrote her back saying that I had potential , but needed some art classes and should go to CalArts. Sorry to say that never happened.
My Dad has always wanted me to sell my artwork, I have sold some pieces that I have done, They would take me to the Artists colony in Laguna Beach and other places as well. I took a Art Class by snail mail (this was before there was a online). I got my Certificate from Famous Artist`s Art School in 1987.
I have recently lost my job, while I am searching for a new line of work, I am keeping busy doing art.
My mom had passed away back in 1993 and my dad was down for awhile. we (the boys and sis-in-law`s) got him out dancing where he met his future wife. He has been active in music all these years, but recently has been diagnosed with Dementia and is losing his memory. Today is his 85th Birthday. I want to make him proud and tell him Look Dad I am a Artist!
So Why am I telling you this? About my life and his?
Dementia sucks! He is losing all his memories, I know I cannot help him money-wise as I am struggling just to keep up on my bills. But I want to make him proud of me, while he still can remember. Plus I want to be able to either send him on a nice trip to N. Calif. or give to help in finding a cure for the disease. So I have created a #Kickstarter Campaign, I started it today on my Dads 85th Birthday and I am running it for 38 days.
